Writing Style

Filo supports setting a Writing Style for AI email writing. Define it once, and Filo will follow your preferences for both new emails and replies—syncing across your account.

Where to find it

  • Mac & Windows: Settings → Writing Style; you can also pick a style from the bottom of the composer.
  • iOS & Android: Settings → Writing Style; when composing/replying, pick a style from the toolbar above the keyboard.

Built-in presets

Besides Default, Filo includes three built-in presets so you can quickly switch tones for different situations:

  • Concise: Shorter and more direct, with fewer pleasantries and less repetition. Prioritizes key points.
  • Professional: Polished business writing with clear structure and careful wording.
  • Friendly: Warm and natural, slightly more conversational while staying professional.

Create your own style

You can also create custom writing styles, for example:

  • Control tone & length: “Polite but concise, ~120 words, end with ‘Best regards,’”
  • Control structure & format: “Start with the conclusion, then list action items as 3 bullet points; use bullets when needed.”
  • Standardize wording: “Avoid exaggerated adjectives; prefer active voice; keep key facts and numbers.”

Style prompt tips

  • Be specific, short, and actionable: the more concrete, the more consistent the outputs.
  • Give formatting cues: e.g. “use bullets/numbering” or “first line is the conclusion.”
  • Combine multiple rules: one prompt can constrain tone, length, structure, and wording at once.

Example

Name: Business-friendly · Action items first

Style Prompt:

New email: business-friendly tone, ≤120 words. Start with the conclusion, then list 2–3 action items (action items first).
Rewrite/polish: do not change facts, numbers, dates, or amounts; be clearer and shorter; avoid exclamation marks and hype.
Output format: prefer bullet points; use short headings when helpful; keep proper nouns and email addresses unchanged.

Updating & resetting

  • Applies immediately: your next AI draft/rewrite will use the latest style.
  • Back to default: in the composer, choose Default (or unselect your current style) to return to Filo’s default writing.
  • Manage multiple styles: create/edit/delete styles and switch any time when writing.
